So, to follow up on this weeks linux problem. After solving the graphics problem I realized that it was not my only problem. A day later of problem solving I came to the conclusion that the external USB was extremely slow due to a IRQ problem. Got some errors in dmesg that said that it could not assign address X. Haven’t seen IRQ problems for a couple of years now, almost forgot that it might be a problem. Good thing to check is /proc/interrupts, if your line with the usb controllers constantly have the value 0 you might have a IRQ problem. Well, now I am off for the weekend so I will celebrate with some rum!

Kinda noticed when I got to work that it was monday. Somehow the last apt-get upgrade on my laptop had rendered the i945 graphics driver pretty broken. Broken to the degree that graphics where extremey slow and the USB stuff seemed pretty broken. After a couple of hours of hacking through the intel DRM kernel and fiddeling with settings and modules I fouond out that the xserver-xorg-video-i810 was installed , and in the squeeze/sid that did not work well with the xserver-xorg-video-intel. So after installing the i810 package and a nice reboot everything worked fine. This took a while, thankfully I missed checking my calendar properly so I missed a meeting and had to attend via phone. Gave me time to hack along for a while. The wonderful world of Linux and OpenSource is so nice. Keeps you busy at least.

So, woke up early and took a look at the thermometer, about 20 in the sun and I thought that this will be a good day. And so far I am pretty right. On the other hand, I am always right. Why should I be wrong ? Spent last night having a couple beers and read up on the pirate discussions here in sweden. Found some nice blogs from Fredrik Strage and Unni Drougge that kinda made sense. Also a lot of humor. But I guess the Media Industry will never provide me with what I want. Which is a portal where all the media companys are gathered and I can have access to all their media for a sum each month. Not like now when they have divided the planet into sections and assume that people are stuipd and accepts to wait half a year for a movie to open. This all seems like a communist idea that someone who thinks that they know better shall decide for you what you should watch. People are usually pretty good at knowing what they want to do. And the big Media companies does not seem to realize that there is a connection between quality and the will to buy stuff.

So, finally friday. Appearantly it is also payday, what a nice coincidence. The sun is shining so hopefully the summer is getting here in a not so long while. Gonna get me some beers after work today I think. I kinda deserve that
Noticed an update for Nginx, and also a native Windows version.

So, after a year or so we are back in business
This time with a slightly upgraded server that actually can run 2 things at the same time
The difference is that we are running with 512Megabytes of ram instead of 128. Kinda helps whe you want to run a database server, spamfilter, mailserver and a webserver. Sticking to Nginx so far. Seems to kick Apache’s butt pretty good in speed.
